Instructional Basketball


Boys - Kindergarten through 3rd grade

Season (Oct - Jan)

The instructional program practices are usually held on SUNDAYS (12 noon or later) throughout the season. The instructional program is an introductory program that stresses the fundamentals of basketball.


Kinder/First Grades: $175, 2nd-3rd grades: $175

League Basketball


Boys - 4th through 12th grade
Girls - 4th through 9th grade

Season (Sept - Feb/Mar)

The season starts with divisional team mass practices on September 8 and 9. The players are evaluated so the coaches can draft/select teams of relatively equal strength.

Two-hour team practices are held on Saturday mornings/afternoons or Sunday afternoons until the start of league play in December. Practices are then scheduled for Saturdays as league games are played on Sundays.


Cost for league registration per player is $280.


San Jose CYS is a member of the Nikkei Youth Basketball Association (NYBA). The NYBA is an organized basketball league consisting of member organizations from Palo Alto, San Francisco, San Jose, San Mateo, and Tri-City.


CYS sponsors its annual basketball tournament for all boy's and girl's divisions. Parents of participating players are required to sell program ads and provide manpower for the CYS tournament.

When invited, CYS teams are encouraged to participate in various basketball tournaments hosted by other organizations throughout the season. The Basketball Commissioners and Coaches will coordinate team tournament entries with participating members pay tournament entry fees (not included in registration).


Girls Divisions

  • G4: 4th grade

  • G3: 5th and 6th grade

  • G2: 7th, 8th, and 9th grades

Boys Divisions

  • D-American: 4th and 5th grade

  • D-National: 6th grade

  • C-American: 7th grade

  • C-National: 8th and 9th grade

  • B: 10th, 11th and 12th grade

Players playing up in the previous year will continue to be allowed to play with their prior teammates.


All parents are asked to volunteer to help with team practices and games.  Some of the required assistance include:

  1. Coach

  2. Manager

  3. Practice assistants

  4. Provide drinks and snacks for practices and games

  5. Scorekeeper

  6. Timer
